There are five kinds of resources in the land (well actually 6, but the Elephants are not seen as such)
HORSES
Horses are found mainly in the plains-lands, and, although rare, small numbers can exist in other lands as well. They are a resource that will yield a specific number per month. This is not as a result of a birthrate, but more like those that are found and captured. This rate can be increased by 10% with researching the trait: Hunting. (Advanced hunting increases it to a maximum 20% more. Horses are used in the following manner:
WOOD/LOGS
Like horses, forests are harvested at a set rate. Unlike horses however, you can not capture wood in any decent form except ias shipping or as forests. It is a factor of how much wood can a woodcutter cut if a woodcutter did cut wood. Answer= not much. However, with researcing the trait: Forestry, people can improve this amount by 10%. (Advanced hunting increases it to a maximum 20% more.) Logs are used in the following manner:
Additionally, as in all things, there is a cash cost as well. See Research for this cost.
IRON
Iron is mined. As such it is not a freely attainable resource. In order to use iron you must have researched the following traits: mining and blacksmithing. With deep mining this trait is improved by 20%.
GOLD
Gold is mined. As such it is not a freely attainable resource. However the most gold is never mined, but collected in taxes.
There will always be a little panned, and that amount appears in the land-income. However in order to increase your income by the amount shown in the resource figure, you must have researched the following trait: mining. With deep mining this trait is improved by 10%.
PEOPLE
RESOURCES
Resources take on many forms in this game. For example: Horses are used for chariots, knights and heavy or light cavalry. There is not an infinite number in the land. Resources, as in any scenario, must be managed, watched and sometimes plundered.
Horses
Wood
Iron
Gold
and People
We will handle each separately.
Chariots require two horses each to pull. All other units require one. So, if you have 1000 Horses. You can equip 500 chariots, or 1000 knights.
Horses are assumed to be killed in battle when the rider is also killed. If troops are captured, or recruits are captured (See treasury under Government) then your forces will capture the horses as well. All other military equipment captured is thrown away as being unsuitable to your workings. (Catapults will be used for firewood, etc. these guys on the field are stone-age afterall and the catapults look a little different)
A land with horses can be raped. The number of horses captured will number 3 times that normal from the country. However, the remaining horses will run and not be found and for all intents and purposes, they will have dissapeared.
Wood is consumed in different amounts, and, although different wood is used for different things, it is assumed here that the wood growing here is useful in all applications to a lessor or more efficient extent. So a bow and a set of arrows might use 2 logs to make and maintain..with only the choice cuts being used, the rest being thrown away in the process.
A land with forests can be raped. The number of trees cut down will number 3 times that normal from the country. However, the remaining trees will have been damaged, split or left rotting on the floor by inept and poor lumberjacks. The slopes down which the logs are dragged will also be destroyed and for all intents and purposes, there will be no trees left to harvest.
Wood is used in the following ways:
ARTICLE LOGS NEEDED SPEARMAN 1 ARCHER 1.5 SUPERIOR ARCHER 2 CHARIOT 2.5 CATAPULT 3 FISHING BOAT 50 PENTACONTER 100 BIREME 400 TRIREME 750 QUADRIREME 1250 QUINQUEREME 2000 LIBURNE 3000 HORSE BARGE 3000
For a clearer picture of the ships uses and a description see the NAVAL RULES
A land with iron can be raped. The amount of iron produced will number 3 times that normal from the country. However, the remaining iron will be trapped behind collapsed mines, and dangerous slopes by inept and poor miners. smelters will have been damaged and the workers rich and retired and for all intents and purposes, there will be no iron left to mine.
The smelting process is crude. But fine weapons can be brought fourth. In some regards the iron used is negligable and ignored however Iron is used in quantity in the following:
ARTICLE IRON NEEDED Heavy Infantry 1 Heavy Cavalry 2.5 Knights 4 Catapults 3
For the cash cost of these units see The Army.
A land with gold can be raped (As long as you can mine). The amount of gold produced will number 3 times that normal from the country. However, the remaining gold will be trapped behind collapsed mines, and dangerous slopes by inept and poor miners. smelters will have been damaged and the workers rich and retired and for all intents and purposes, there will be no gold left to mine.
Gold is added straight to your income for payment of troops and purchasing.
People are ruled, or governed. No way manner or form will make more join up. Nor can the land be raped for more...it will take far to long.. :)
YOu will be given a number of volunteers depending on the population, the higher the population the more that will arrive for work. The population given is a total figure of warrior age troops (women included) not the whole population. This population is percieved as the one that will spot and capture spies as well.
As you recruit this figure will decrease slowly.
