FILE 13

PRE FINAL REMARK

Battles take place on a large area from 08:00 till 17:00. If both teams defend then generals will grow bored and order a frontal attack. However failing light might end the battle early and both teams will exit the field, leaving the ground to the present owner. Similarly two right flank attacks may pass each other unnoticed and the same result may ensue.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

There are rare quirks in the game. 'Magical' pieces of the ship could be found, and used. Additionally blights and boons such as storms, plagues and pestilence or favourable crop weather may change economies or aid them. Careful with those coffers.

TURN MOVEMENT AND ORDER

From first to last this is about how a turn transpires:

PAY all wages etc.
DISBAND
UNPAID REACTIONS

MOVE including: Meld and split
Move or forced march
Attack methods and strategies and leave field
War and special instructions
Sacking
.............Treasury movement
Shipping
CITY UPRISINGS
RESEARCH
RECRUIT
STORM AFFECTED SHIP LANDINGS SPY move and reports

TURN RESULTS

At the end of each turn you receive:
An income/expenditure sheet
Lands and cities
Your army strength and position
Possible recruits available.
Spy reports and their reconnoitred battlefield maps' description.

{If there is any other report you think is relevant let me know..I'll think it
over.}

ADDITIONALLY: Newbies will receive a comprehensive battle report for the first few turns. Well, only if you win the battles (losers cant count the dead or confer with the living). Losses for each clash, each flight of arrows etc. This gives a lot of information as regards to strengths and weaknesses. You might see how Chariots decimate infantry. Or how Catapults decimate chariots. or how archers and cavalry get along. There again you may not. The equations are complex. Morale from earlier skirmishes, elevation, strengths, weaponry and combat status all play a role. Losses are high. The movie Braveheart was fairly accurate in the dead percentages they litter a battlefield. 30000 men of opposite sides can walk onto a field and if both are balanced against each other and use a guts or glory attack and have no withdrawal or retreat percentages listed, almost all can die.

HINTS

The quickest way to die is to think of immortality. Your soldiers are your blood. Take easy pickings. Attack where you may find allies. Gain lands quickly for the money and men. But most importantly, plan. This shouldn't be a ten minute planned move. Sum up the opposition. If you have spied well then you know how many. If you have thought then you know what battle-readiness and if you have become a student of war then you may thrash them. Many factors play a role. Timing on the field is important. Dont isolate a single troop like chariots out front, nor leave it in the rear. How do you think your enemy will attack? Plan to intercept his move with the right pieces. Sending infantry in first against a fast chariot attack may cost you a battle. But sending them in late under other circumstances is just as bad. Know your enemy well. An enemy crossing a wooded ravine does so slowly, giving archers many more chanches to loose flights of arrows into them..you must think of this and all things. "Outthink, outsmart and outmanoeuvre."

WHAT MUST YOU DO?

Firstly ask yourself if you have the time. Once a week movements, sent out on Americas Sunday night (about midnight) and expected in Americas Thursday night, also midnight. Late submissions will not be accepted, your troops will mill around, and your coffers grow. If attacked your forces will assume the generals digression and fight to their death. Next, select a strategy and a race that suits your strategy. Then chose an Army name. Do this twice more in case your army has been granted to another. Clearly stipulate your E-mail addresses and name.

Sit back and prepare for a war.

Finally. Treaties may only be made between Tolerant or favourable armies. These treaties are under the players digression and I will play no part except if it is obvious that two hate filled groups are too friendly.

Addendum to the finally note. aka THE final note

This is the third time this is being run yet Bugs may still exist and requests for certain items will also be thought about and possibly incorporated. Patience and constant checking of your numbers is needed. I dont want three cities disappearing overnight as much as you dont. No problems are known but many are expected.
